Aluminum Gunnel Rail
Aluminum Gunnel Rail
Does anyone know where I can buy the aluminum gunnel rail for our PDQ 34 powercat?

Re: Aluminum Gunnel Rail
Good question! I have been told replacing them would be very expensive. Perhaps it might be possible to find rails off boats being scrapped in Florida after the hurricane, but I’ve not looked and I’m not sure the deck hole spacing is standard.

Re: Aluminum Gunnel Rail
Hey BJ. I was looking too - I was told they're no longer available, so I just finished refinishing ours. They were pretty heavily damaged, bent badly in one spot, chewed away in many, scratches everywhere. I just refinished the lower section, but I might hit the top with primer and paint at a later date.
I got them looking pretty great, but they'll need maintenance - the aluminum paint won't hold up like the anodizing. But, I'm happy with them.
- cold worked the bends/dents
- sanded (angle grinder in spots)
- filled with JB Weld (aluminum)
- etch primed (spray)
- aluminum paint (rolled)
ALSO - I did consider adding a 1.25" rubrail-like material to the outer surface. I'm going to see how it holds up before taking that step.
