Steering cable replacement

Does anyone have any tips on replacing the Early 36 steering cable set? Its
pretty stiff, and Richard (previous owner)had already tried a few ways to
lubricate it.

I tried to find out which Hull # you have but for some reason I could not find
you listed in the PDQ Owners List. I have hull # 36014 and several years ago I
had the same problem of stiff steering. I totally replaced the Steering cables
and housings with what PDQ is putting in the boats now. In the early boats there
was no pully system at the sharp turn point under the deck under the wheel. You
need to install the pully system. Then the cable is a streight shot back to the
rudder. I suggest you contact PDQ. And, let me know your details so we can
update the owners list correctly.

I had a stiff feeling wheel for the past two years, tried everything to
lubricate it. During our trip down the ICWW our Autohelm failed to engage. I
just took it off to replace the drive, and guess what? The helm is now free of
excessive drag. Might want to check that first

I would be interested in knowing how to set the Autohelm 4000 to minimize drag
on the steering.
