Life Expectancy of Yamaha 9.9s?

I pose this question as an open one, and I would like to get as many owners as possible to provide their input here:
For the original engines (Yamaha 9.9s),
- how many hours (and years) are on your engines?
- salt-water or fresh-water?
- do you have plans to (or have you) replace them?
Any other thoughts?

Hi Kevin
My engines are 2000 models with 1800 hours on them. Still going strong.
I do a good annual maintance. Impellers have been replaced, timing belts changed at 1500 hours (noticeable improvement in operation) and the usual 100 oil changes. I also use Yamaha de-carbonizer. It seems to help.
Back to the boat in two weeks!!

I suppose I should reply too, since I started the topic.
My two engines ar 1995, each have about 1000 hours on them. Running OK, in Lake Michigan, fresh water.

My 2 Cents,
Currently on third set of engines. I have gotten about 2000hrs on first set (oil pans corroded thru)and traded the second set at 1800hrs. It seems to me that all sorts of problems start showing up after 1800hrs. I think this is due to overheating from clogged cooling passages from saltwater. I would like to know if the passages could be cleaned somehow without dissassembly. Maybe Muriatic acid? The commercial products (West Marine, etc) don't seem to do the job.
